Welcome to Smithfield Feedlot

Smithfield Feedlot is a state of the art lot feeding operation, growing and marketing cattle throughout Australia and around the world. This family owned company, located at Proston in the South Burnett, Queensland, is built on solid foundations in the meat industry with butcher shops dating back to the 1920’s. Today, Smithfield delivers cattle performance, priding itself on its cohesive skill base focussed on optimising livestock growth.

Smithfield began operating as a lot feeder on July 2nd 1986, with 115 head of cattle from Springsure placed on feed. The lot quickly expanded to 1000 cattle that year, 3500 head by 1990, up to its current capacity of 20,000 head. In 1994, Smithfield began production of their own cattle feed, and in 1998, upgraded the operation to tempering grain. Early in 2001, Smithfield began computerised steam flaking grain and saw a tremendous increase in cattle performance and grain utilisation.

Leveraging from these proud traditions, Smithfield Feedlot has implemented effective cattle feed management systems and embraced technology to expand into one of Australia’s leading grain fed cattle feeders. Today the Smithfield enterprise encompasses three properties; "Teignmouth", "Mondure Park" and "Blacklands" to facilitate its feedlotting, grain production, cultivation and grazing operations and employs 30 staff.
